Oscilloscope + Power Analyzer

The Motor Drive Analyzer is built on the 8ch/12-bit HDO8000A platform. It contains all of the advanced oscilloscope capability you need for embedded control debug plus three-phase power and mechanical analysis with accuracy to within 1% of a dedicated power analyzer instrument.

Static Power Analysis

Like a power analyzer, the MDA can acquire short records under steady-state operating conditions and provide fast updates of mean value power quantities in the Numerics table. Power quantities can be calculated on a line frequency AC period, a variable frequency PWM output period, or over a very short time period, such as the device switching period.

Dynamic Power Analysis

Long memory (up to 250 Mpts/ch) permits capture and analysis of long periods of time (e.g. 25 seconds at 10 MS/s). Touch a Numerics table cell and create a per-cycle "synthesized" Waveforms of the parameter over time.Zoom+Gate adds further value for dynamic analysis. Correlate complex drive behaviors to other control or power system waveforms, and debug drive system problems faster.

Complete System Debug

Power Analyzer instruments perform only one function, and typical 4 channel oscilloscopes have limited capabilities for three-phase power system analysis. The Motor Drive Analyzer has 8 analog input channels (+16 optional digital channels) and three-phase power analyzer capability to debug the complete motor drive system.

Zoom+Gate

Zoom your acquisitions and Gate both the Numerics measurement table and the per-cycle Waveforms to the zoomed area. Gain deeper and faster understanding of complex drive and control system behaviors.

Harmonics Analysis Option

Apply a discrete fourier transform (DFT) harmonic filter to acquired voltage and current waveforms. Harmonically filter Numerics table results more accurately than brute force hardware filters. Display per-order Harmonics in a table along with up to 9 spectral waveforms. View per-cycle THD values over time.

Comprehensive Speed and Torque Interface

Interface digital or analog speed sensors with Angle Tracking Observer filtering. Extract speed information from CAN serial data. Use digital (MSO) inputs to conserve valuable analog channels. Interface a variety of torque sensors, extract torque from CAN serial data, or infer torque from motor current and a known torque constant. At your bench, calculate motor Speed and Torque without additional expensive equipment.

TriggerScan A Trigger Trainer analyzes the waveforms, identifies normal behavior, and then sets up a large set of rare event smart trigger setups that target abnormal behavior. The trainer ‘learns’ trigger setups based on slew rates, periods, amplitudes outside of a range and then applies them sequentially.

Measurement Tools

Measurement Functionality Display up to 12 measurement parameters together with statistics, including mean, minimum, maximum, standard deviation, and total number. Each occurrence of each parameter is measured and added to the statistics table. Histicons provide a fast, dynamic view of parameters and waveshape characteristics. Parameter math allows addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division of two different parameters. Parameter gates define the location for measurement on the source waveform. Parameter accept criteria define allowable values based on range setting or waveform state.
