LeCroy Protocol Tools Help Demonstrate Single Root I/O Virtualization During Intel SR-IOV Lab

Intel Developer Forum, San Francisco, CA August 19, 2007 - LeCroy Corporation, a leading supplier of oscilloscopes and serial data test solutions, took part in the Intel IDF Single Root-I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) lab to demonstrate the application of the Summit™ Protocol Analyzer and Protocol Test Card (PTC) for PCI Express® in the testing of SR-IOV capable add-in-cards. SR-IOV is a PCI-SIG® workgroup extension to the PCI Express standard that makes it possible for a single PCI Express adapter to behave simultaneously as several independent devices using a shared PCI Express physical link, and to allow multiple virtual machines to use the link more efficiently.

During the lab the LeCroy Protocol Test Card (PTC) and Summit T2-16 Protocol Analyzer are used to help test the IOV transactions that are occurring between the Root complex and SR-IOV enabled Endpoint device. The lab showcases new test software extensions developed by Intel that facilitate testing of SR-IOV features—multiple physical/virtual function combinations, memory window assignments, and responses to memory operations based on different settings in the endpoint SR-IOV capability.

“Showing developers how SR-IOV can be tested in the platform context to assure robust virtualization based designs is an important step in moving this technology forward ,” said Jim Pappas, Director of Initiative Marketing for Intel Corporation. “LeCroy’s Protocol Test Card has been an extremely helpful tool in demonstrating how the testing could be automated, leading to faster and more reliable testing of SR-IOV features.”

Intel and LeCroy have worked closely to further PCI Express tools over the last few years and will continue to do so to develop better test solutions for IO Virtualization. The Summit T2-16 Analyzer has added SR/MR-IOV support and the PTC will soon be further enhanced to support additional IOV testing features.

“We are pleased to have our protocol tools support Intel’s SR-IOV IHV Test Considerations Lab,” said John Wiedemeier, Product Marketing Manager for PCI Express, LeCroy Corporation. “Developers who need to understand how virtual functions are behaving in a SR-IOV environment will find these tool interfaces easy to use and highly informative.”

LeCroy protocol analyzers have been at the forefront of PCI Express development. All LeCroy protocol analyzers feature a hierarchical display, real-time statistics, protocol traffic summaries, detailed error reports, powerful scripting, and the ability to create user-defined test reports that allow developers to troubleshoot intricate problems and finish their projects on time.
