Catalyst Expands SAS, SATA Product Line with New Low-cost, Portable Protocol Analyzer

Sunnyvale, CA, July 17, 2007 - Catalyst Enterprises, Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced design verification and test tools for Serial ATA (SATA), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), USB 2.0, PCI Express and other high-performance communications technologies, today announced it has expanded its industry-leading line of SAS and SATA protocol analyzers. The company introduced the new STX-131, a highly economical and extremely portable SAS/SATA analyzer. The STX-131 is intended for use by field engineers and service technicians requiring a powerful, easy-to-use analysis tool to troubleshoot and solve problems in the field.

"The outstanding market acceptance of the SAS and SATA protocols is increasing demand for protocol test tools, especially for field use," said Mark Adams, Catalyst product manager for data storage. "This increased demand allows us to provide a wider range of products and at much lower price points. Field engineering teams that need a simple, portable test system now have an analyzer that meets their needs at less than half the price of Catalyst’s STX analyzers developed for design engineers. In the new STX-131, Catalyst is delivering the cost-effectiveness, portability and essential features field engineers look for in SAS and SATA analysis tools."

The STX-131 comes with all of the trace views and analytical tools found in every Catalyst STX product. SAS and SATA traffic can be captured and decoded for problem identification and resolution. Captured traces can be viewed in a variety of ways to suit the analysis being performed. Protocol errors are automatically detected and clearly displayed. The STX-131 comes with powerful search tools and a wide range of the statistical reports including command completion performance, bus utilization, primitive statistics, and command statistics. Traces captured with an STX-131 can also be displayed and analyzed using Catalyst software on any PC system, which provides the ability for experts in the home office to back up field technicians in troubleshooting field issues.

The STX Series features the fastest lock time among analyzers and provides the best capability for capturing and decoding advanced power management in the industry. The STX-131 allows the user to filter out unnecessary traffic, such as IDLEs, CONTs, SYNCs, and XXXX filler traffic. Data payloads can also be truncated to preserve space in the buffer and increase the visibility of long traffic streams.

The STX-131 supports data rates of both 1.5 and 3.0 Gbps, includes auto-speed detection, and captures data from a single bi-directional port. The system includes a trace buffer of 512 MB, and basic triggering and filtering capability to enhance data capture and buffer utilization. The unit weighs only 2.2 lbs (1 Kg).
