Teledyne LeCroy Upgraded DDR Protocol Analyzer adds "Row Hammer" Reporting and System Memory Mapping

New analysis feature help users identify hard to find "row hammer" conditions that could affect data integrity; triggering on logical memory addresses eases system level correlation

Santa Clara, CA, September 4, 2013 - Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, has upgraded the Kibra 480 DDR protocol analyzer platform with innovative features designed to speed problem resolution and improve DRAM reliability. The new Row Usage report is specifically designed to identify instances where excessive ACTIVATE commands introduces bit errors in adjacent rows. The new System Memory Map allows users to automatically translate the DRAM physical address into the logical System memory location. This allows improved correlation between processor, memory and expansion busses, such as PCI Express.

Designed to lower the cost of testing DDR3 and DDR4, the Kibra 480 is a standalone bus analyzer that helps developers test and verify memory system operation and reliability. With a capture capacity of 512 mega-samples, the Kibra 480 provides deep memory recording and innovative analysis reports offering new insights into memory operation.

Row hammer problems occur when excessive ACTIVATE commands targeted at a specific row (aggressor) introduce cross talk that can cause a bit-flip error in an adjacent row (victim). New reports available with the Kibra 480 system allows users to detect any time commands reach a specified threshold on the same row within a given REFRESH cycle. The Row Usage report can also measure minimum, maximum, and average number of commands per Row Activate helping users gain a deeper understanding of memory usage.

"Identifying row hammer issues is a key challenge for the JEDEC community because the data corruption is internal to the DRAM and undetectable by external instruments", stated Roy Chestnut, Director of Peripherals Product Group at Teledyne LeCroy. "The Kibra 480 DDR bus analyzer is one of the first tools that uses heuristics to analyze millions of commands to help identify row hammer problems and improve data integrity in memory controller design."

System memory mapping provides an easy way to translate the physical memory address to the logical addressing used by the operating system. This allows improved correlation with processor operations at both the system and software level. Using a drag and drop graphical interface, users can specify how the mapping should be applied. Real time triggering is now available for both the physical and the logical memory addresses.

"System Memory Mapping can now be CrossSynced with Teledyne LeCroy's PCI Express analyzers to provide new visibility to data transfers across the memory subsystem."

The industry's first standalone protocol analyzer for both DDR3 and DDR4, the Kibra 480 system provides traditional waveform views as well as decoded state listings that show DDR commands and state transitions. Specialized trigger logic capable of identifying over 65 JEDEC timing and protocol violations helps developers optimize interoperability and reliability.
