Teledyne LeCroy Announces M-PHY Receiver Test Solution for PeRT3 Phoenix

Physical layer receiver testing for M-PHY High Speed GEAR1, GEAR2, and GEAR3, and PWM Mode (G0-G7)

MIPI Alliance Members Meeting, Chicago, Illinois, Mar 10, 2014 -Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in high speed I/O analysis and protocol test solutions, today announced its new MIPI® M-PHY Receiver Test solution for the PeRT3 Phoenix – Protocol Enabled Receiver and Transmitter Tolerance Tester. The M-PHY Receiver Test option adds support for M-PHY to the industry’s only protocol enabled receiver and transmitter tolerance tester. M-PHY technology is targeted at mobile devices such as tablets, smart phones and thin laptops. Forecast projections indicate that the quantity of PCs sold will decline as these smaller M-PHY based mobile products grow in volume.

The MIPI M-PHY Receiver Test solution for the PeRT3 Phoenix provides physical layer receiver testing for the MIPI M-PHY protocol, and comprehensive support of HS GEAR1, GEAR2 and GEAR3, and PWM Mode (G0-G7) at the full range of data rates. In addition to automated conformance testing, margin testing and automated calibration, the PeRT3 contains user customizable state-machines to model real serial data protocols. Customizability allows the user to test a device beyond normal expected behavior and also to isolate device specific issues. Because the PeRT3 internally handles the physical layer functions (such as coding/decoding, scrambling/descrambling, packet field detection, etc.), the user can focus at the state level on isolating difficult bugs such as those that cross between protocol and signal integrity. The user can modify the state-machine to help isolate protocol issues. The user can set points within the state-machine to trigger external equipment. A common usage is to trigger an oscilloscope at a specific point within the negotiation to observe the signal quality or message content.

Support for M-PHY receiver testing is a simple add on software option to the latest PeRT3 Phoenix hardware platform. The PeRT3 Phoenix Platform is designed to meet the test needs of engineers working with serial data transceivers and other high-speed serial data communication systems. In many new generations of high speed serial I/O standards, the protocol layer controls low power states. This requires a PeRT3, a new class of instrumentation that can perform standard receiver tests and also communicate to the transmitter in protocol language. PeRT3 combines all the physical layer capabilities of a BERT system with protocol handshake and training capabilities.
