Topic:

SPARQ Series Signal Integrity Network Analyzers - Switch Matrix

Problem:

What is the lifetime of the switches used in the SPARQ? Will they need replacing?

Solution:

The switch matrix is used to connect the TDR pulser/sampler and TDT sampler to the internal open, short, load and thru standards and to the front-panel ports. Every switch position is warranted to 2,000,000 actuations, or throws. This corresponds to approximately 600,000 4-port measurements. The lifetime is based on the insertion loss, as opposed to mechanical failure. With a 600,000 measurement lifetime, it is unlikely that the switches will ever need to be replaced. The SPARQ's Self-Test feature reports the remaining switch lifetime.
