Digital Oscilloscopes – XStreamDSO – Waveform

Problem:

What is the resolution of my waveform?

Solution:

A waveform can be saved or read from a Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope with up to 16 bits of resolution.  The waveform is in either binary or ASCII formats.

In binary format, the waveform is in 16-bit resolution in Word format or 8-bit resolution in Byte format.

Saving to ASCII waveforms (.dat, .csv, .txt) saves from the floating point values with resolution greater than the maximum resolution of the oscilloscope. The amount of resolution is based on the oscilloscope model, waveform type, and vertical settings.

The following chart describes the minimum quantization levels available on an 8-bit and 12-bit oscilloscopes.
