Overview

With comprehensive support for USB Type-C™, 3.2 Gen 2x1 and Power Delivery 3.2 specifications, Teledyne LeCroy’s legendary Voyager analyzer platform provides the industry’s most accurate and reliable capture of SuperSpeed USB and PD protocol for fast debug, analysis and problem solving. Featuring the de facto standard CATC Trace™ display and loaded with innovative features that help uncover elusive protocol errors, the Voyager platform is the intelligent choice for any USB protocol validation task.

Highly configurable, the Voyager M310e platform supports the broadest range of official USB-IF Compliance specs including USB Power Delivery 3.2, Type-C, USB 3.2 Link Layer, USB Hub, and DP Alt-mode. The M310e is available with an integrated exerciser capable of emulating host and endpoint behaviors for USB 2.0, 3.2, in addition to PD Source, Sink and Dual-Role devices. Now enhanced to support Power Delivery Extended Power Range (EPR) devices, the M310e is the ‘one-stop’ solution for USB certification. Flexible hardware

The front-end of the Voyager analyzer features standard USB Type-C connectors that support USB 2.0 and 3.0/3.2 signals to provide loss-less capture of traffic from all active links simultaneously. Concurrent recording of legacy USB, SuperSpeed+ and PD messages, allows end-to-end viewing of USB 3.2 Type-C bridge and dock configuration requests (legacy USB Type A devices are fully supported using the included adapter cables). The Voyager M310e platform includes 16GB of recording memory plus USB 3.2 and Gbe links for uploading recorded traffic to the host PC.

Analysis Software

USB Device Decoding
The Voyager software performs full decoding of USB device class traffic with both automatic and manual assignment of decodes to individual endpoints. From MTP, to CCD, to Video class, the Voyager provides the most comprehensive decoding available. It offers full support for the newest device types including Audio 3.0, Type-C Bridge, Content Security and USB Attached SCSI.

Low-Level Analysis
The Voyager is the only analyzer on the market that captures every transition at the 5 and 10 Gb/s link rates including idles, inter-packet symbols, corrupt 10-bit codes and 128-bit data blocks. The Link Tracker provides a chronological upstream / downstream display of all ordered sets with timing resolution of 800ps. Designed to assist with low-level debugging, all symbols including training sequences can be displayed in raw 10-bit, 8-bit, scrambled, and unscrambled Hex format. Symbol-to-symbol timing measurements are possible with a single click.

Intelligent Triggering & Filtering
The Voyager provides hardware triggering to pinpoint protocol events of interest. Trigger events can be specified at the lowest levels including bus states and ordered sets (Link up, SKP, etc...) or header fields including address or packet types (ACK, Data, etc….). analyzer can filter unwanted traffic from the buffer in real-time by discarding redundant patterns such as SKPs, idles, and training sequences Voyager's graphical drag-and-drop interface makes setup easy.

Protocol Error Detection

The Teledyne LeCroy Voyager can detect and flag real protocol errors including more than 50 different USB issues and 15 unique PD error conditions. At the lower layers, training sequences, header fields, link layer handshakes and timing parameters are automatically verified. At the SCSI and USB transaction layers, individual exchanges are checked for completeness. The Spec-View displays header fields in hex or binary and also marks errors in red.

Integrated Exerciser

A comprehensive exerciser capability with support for both USB PD, USB 2.0, 3.0 and 3.2 traffic generation is built-in to the Voyager platform. The exerciser option allows users to transmit custom packets over standard USB cables with low-level control of headers, payloads, timing, and link states. Voyager ReadyLink™ performs link synchronization, flow control and header acknowledgements automatically in hardware. The Transaction Engine manages NRDY retry conditions allowing the Voyager to operate at full line rate and correctly respond to the DUT as defined by the specification. Overrides allow normal behaviors to be altered such as inserting errors, shortening LFPS intervals, link training sequences or handshake timing.

Power Delivery Compliance Suite

The Power Delivery (PD) Compliance Suite helps developers verify functionality, error recovery, and compliance for PD 3.2 chipsets and end-products. Integrated with Teledyne LeCroy's Voyager M310e and M4x platforms, it uses emulation scripts to mimic PD link partner behaviors, initiating and responding to PD messages, and generating pass/fail reports over Type-C cabling.

Recognized by USB-IF as a "Gold Suite" test solution and approved for the IEC 62680 conformance program, the Voyager series supports the latest PD test requirements. The Voyager M310e now includes support for Extended Power Range (EPR) testing, requiring a programmable power supply for "sinks" supporting above 20V.

USB Type-C Functional Verification Suite

The Voyager M310e USB Type-C Functional Verification Suite allows developers to verify the logical USB Type-C port operation and verify compliance to the specification for USB Type-C devices. The Voyager M310e / M310P provide 100% coverage of the Type-C Functional Verification specification and are now required for Type-C devices seeking USB-IF logo certification or IEC 62680 conformance.

The Type-C Functional test suite is fully automated and generates a Pass/Fail report. Trace files are saved allowing complete analysis of all test results. The Voyager M310e / M310P are the only platforms that fully implement the Type-C tests that require USB 2.0 & 3.1 traffic synchronized with Type-C state changes. Generating USB 10Gbps logical link traffic while simultaneously changing USB Type-C terminations and link states is a critical feature for testing Type-C devices that support USB data.

DP Alt Mode 2.1 Compliance option

Recently updated VESA DisplayPort Alt Mode (DPAM) 2.1 compliance test specification (CTS) is fully supported on the latest Voyager platforms. The new DPAM 2.1 CTS was revised by VESA in 2023 to significantly expand the scope of tests. DP Alt Mode over Type-C compatible devices are required to pass all normative DPAM 2.1 tests to gain VESA certification.

Power Tracker

The Voyager Power Tracker option monitors Vbus, CC and VCONN voltage/current and displays power levels graphically in a time line format. This power information is synchronized to the trace allowing users to verify power state transitions at the protocol and electrical layers. The Power Tracker continually samples voltage during normal operations. It includes markers and delta measurements with point and click ease. Required for running PD Compliance Suite, the Power Tracker is invaluable for validating VBUS, PD, Type-C and Vconn behaviors.

USB 3.2 Compliance Suite

The Voyager USB 3.2 Compliance Suite enables developers to verify device compliance with the USB 3.2 Link Layer specification. Using the Teledyne LeCroy USB 3.2 analyzer exerciser platform, it is the only USB-IF approved Link Verification System (LVS) for link layer testing. The suite includes over 200 test cases covering hundreds of assertions, essential for verifying link training, recovery, and power management behaviors.

The process is automated through a user-friendly application, allowing individual or complete test runs. Options are available for 5Gb/s, 10Gb/s, and 20Gb/s link rates. The suite provides full source code for host and device emulation scripts, enabling customization for developers.

Embedded USB probe

The embedded USB probe allows any Teledyne LeCroy USB protocol analyzer to tap between chip-to-chip USB links using low or full speed Inter-chip signals or standard USB 2.0 signaling. Designed for chip-to-chip links that use low or full speed at all defined IC-USB voltages. The probe can also be used to tap USB 2.0 links at standard 3.3 volt signal levels. The embedded probe utilizes a 4-wire header plug that can be attached as a solder down tap or as flying lead connection attached directly to header pins on the DUT.
