Summary

This system answers the question of obturator to stem connections where verification is difficult to determine. The DRS can also be used to validate the quality of welds on pressure retaining components. The hardware is portable and does not emit any radiation until it is powered on by the user. This eliminates the need to clear the path to the valve.

Code

The ASME OM Code, Section ISTC-3700 requires that valves with remote position indicators be observed locally at least once every two years and, where practicable, this observation be supplemented by other indicators to verify obturator position. 10 CFR 50.55a(b)(3) (xi) makes this supplemental check mandatory on all valves subject to remote position indication testing.
