LeCroy Introduces D500PT, 6 GHz Differential Probe

LeCroy Corporation introduces the D500PT 6 GHz Differential Probe Module and Positioner Mounted Tip for its WaveLink Probe System. Designed with a thin form factor and spring-loaded tips, the module is ideally suited for use with multiple D500PT probes in tight areas, such as the back side of printed circuit boards with ball-grid array packaged integrated circuits (ICs). The D500PT probe has 2 mm of Z-axis compliance through spring loaded tips and allows considerable angular freedom while still maintaining reliable contact with the device under test. A ball joint between the probe tip and mounting arm makes it easy to adjust probe position even when the probe is mounted in a probe positioner. A small thumbscrew allows precise positioning of the tip spacing. Altogether, the D500PT allows engineers to do something that in the past was very difficult – position multiple high performance probes in a very tight geography.

All the active amplifier circuitry is contained in the D500PT probe tip modules. The D500PT’s thin form factor allows multiple probes to be used when several channels are required to monitor signals from the same IC. The D500PT differential probe achieves superior loading characteristics, precise frequency response with outstanding fidelity, and low loading and frequency response flatness. It has a rise time of <100 ps (when used with a 5 GHz oscilloscope), attenuation accuracy of 2% +/-1.2V, (5% +/-2.4V), and dynamic range of +/-2.4V. Noise is only 5.8 mV rms with a 6 GHz oscilloscope.

The D500PT Positioner Mounted Module is the latest member of LeCroy’s WaveLink Differential Probe Series. Other tip modules are also available, providing other probe to circuit interconnection options - the D600A-AT (adjustable tip), D600ST (small tip), D300-AT, and D350ST differential probe modules

WaveLink probes feature a high bandwidth and are suited for signal integrity measurements in high-speed digital systems. The first differential probes to employ Silicon Germanium (SiGe) technology, WaveLink probes deliver full system bandwidth when used with LeCroy’s WaveMaster®, SDA, DDA, or WavePro® 7000A series oscilloscopes. Additionally, WaveLink probes are the first products of their kind to use a unique calibration proces to achieve superb waveform fidelity for routine voltage measurements.

LeCroy also offers the EZ-Probe Positioner for use with the WaveLink probes. The EZ-Probe Positioner provides stable, accurate positioning in the x-y-z axis via a unique 3:1 motion reduction joystick. The EZ-Probe Positioner has a fully articulating arm to provide 30 cm reach in virtually any direction
