Overview

The Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata M42h 96Gbps Video Analyzer / Generator for HDMI Testing is a compact, versatile test instrument that can be easily extended from an entry level functional tester with both video analysis and video generation function to a full certified source and sink compliance tester. The M42h is equipped with both HDMI Tx and Rx ports supporting HDMI Fixed Rate Link and FEC capture analysis and decode up to 96Gbps (24Gbps/Lane).

The M42h instrument's HDMI Rx analyzer ports provide deep analysis capabilities for HDMI Fixed Rate Link (FRL) with Forward Error Correction (FEC) up to 96Gbps (24Gbps/lane). The analyzer ports provide visibility into the Fixed Rate Link packetization—FRL packets, Character blocks and Super blocks. The instrument also supports analysis of the FRL link training functions of a receiver in the FRL mode in both 3 lane and 4 lane configurations to test a source's FRL link training function. Analysis of Display Stream Compression (DSC) is also supported.

Deep analysis of FRL source streams or TMDS streams enables you to identify and resolve interoperability problems early in the product life cycle. The M42h depicts the incoming FRL packet structure and associated control elements. Once the FRL stream is captured you can view and analyze the underlying TMDS (tri-byte) contents as well.

The M42h is also equipped with HDMI Tx ports for video generation of TMDS and FRL streams to support testing of FRL-capable displays including generation of Display Stream Compression (DSC). The test patterns and formats necessary to run the DSC sink compliance tests are pre-cached for fast rendering.

The M42h instrument’s video generator function enables you to run tests on FRL-capable display devices by rendering FRL streams up to 12K and higher video resolutions at lane rates up to 24Gb/s and at an aggregate link rate of 96Gb/s. The video generator function supports free selection of specific video formats (including 8K), colorimetry, bit depth, chroma subsampling and test patterns in both the FRL and TMDS modes.

In addition to the rich set of analysis and video generation features, the M42h will also support the Fixed Rate Link (FRL) source and sink video, audio and protocol compliance test suites for certification of both FRL source and sink devices. These industry-approved comprehensive test suites enable you to pre-test or self-test your FRL capable source or sink device in the comfort of your own lab.

The M42h also supports enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) Tx/Rx functional testing. The solution provides emulation of an eARC Tx and Rx functions over the eARC Common Mode and Differential Mode data channels. The instrument supports discovery and disconnnect, heartbeat, status and capabilities data structure. You can monitor and transmit audio through the eARC audio channels. The instrument also supports the full suite of Enhanced Audio Return Channel compliance tests for self-testing or pre-testing for both eARC Tx and eARC Rx devices.

Features

The following are a list of features and benefits for the M42h instrument.

Fixed Rate Link (FRL) Source Analysis

Provides deep analysis test features necessary to test the development of your HDMI 2.2 TMDS or FRL-capable source device. The M42h depicts the incoming TMDS and FRL packet structures and associated elements. For FRL this includes depicting the Character Block structure and Super Block structure. All FRL packet data elements are assigned precise timestamps. Users can view the embedded TMDS (tri-byte data) capture and the image frames as well to verify their FRL packetization. Extensive searching and filtering capabilities supported.

Fixed Rate Link (FRL) Video Generation

Supports video generation of FRL streams to test FRL-capable displays at up to 8K video resolutions at lane rates up to 24Gb/s and at an aggregate link rate of 96Gb/s. Feature supports free selection of format resolution, frame rate, bit depth, colorimetry, high dynamic range, test pattern, etc.

Display Stream Compression (DSC)

Supports video generation and video analysis of FRL and DSC streams to test FRL, DSC-capable sources and displays at up to 12K video resolutions at lane rates up to 24Gb/s and at an aggregate link rate of 96Gb/s. The test patterns and formats necessary to run the DSC sink compliance tests are pre-cached for fast rendering out the video generator. These pre-cached DSC formats and images can also be used for routine functional testing.

Link Training

Supports link training either as a source (video generator) or as a sink (protocol analyzer) through EDID and SCDC register transactions in accordance with the link training states defined in the HDMI 2.2 specification. Monitor Link Training transactions in the Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) utility to show SCDC reads and writes over the DDC channel.

Forward Error Correction

Reports the Lane Error Counts and Reed Solomon Corrections Count in the SCDC Reed Solomon Corrections Counter registers.

Gaming Tests

Supports Gaming-VRR, Fast VActive (Quick Frame Transport) and Quick Media Switching (QMS) VRR testing, including compliance, on gaming-capable displays and consoles.

Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) Tx Functional Test

Provides emulation of an eARC Tx function over the eARC Common Mode data channel. Supports discovery and disconnnect, heartbeat, status and capabilities data structure. Supports functional testing of the differential mode by enabling users to inject audio for transmission over the eARC channel using the internal sine wave generator.

Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) Rx Functional Test

Provides emulation of an eARC Rx function over the eARC Common Mode data channel. Supports discovery and disconnnect, heartbeat, status and capabilities data structure. Supports functional testing of the differential mode by enabling users to monitor the incoming audio metadata and to extract the incoming audio for monitoring by an external device.

Data Portability

Data portability enables you to share capture data and compliance test results with colleagues, subject matter experts at other corporate locations and other experts for analysis. The M42h instrument is not required to view the test results. The data can be viewed through the M42h Advanced Test Platform GUI which is free and available from the Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata website.
