Ultra Wideband

Ultrawideband (UWB) has emerged as the leading technology to address consumer wireless personal area networking (WPAN) applications. Teledyne LeCroy released the first UWB protocol analyzer for WiMedia-based Wireless PANs in April of 2005. Teledyne LeCroy also offers oscilliscope solutions designed to perform EVM analysis at the WiMedia phyical layer.

What is Ultra Wideband?

  • Short distance high throughput wireless communications ideal for WPAN (wireless personal area network).

  • Utilizes a low power (-41db) signal from 3.1 to 11.6 GHz with channel bandwidths of ~ 500 MHz.

  • Will not interfere with other wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, WiMAX, and cellular

What is WiMedia Alliance?

  • Non-profit industry association, including Intel, HP, Phillips, Kodak, and Microsoft aiming to have standards adopted by IEEE

  • Collaborates on developing and administering specs from the physical layer up

  • Enables connectivity and interoperability for multiple industry-based protocols sharing the MBOA-UWB spectrum

What is Wireless USB?

  • First volume utilization of ultra wideband technology

  • Achieves the same performance as wired high speed USB connection

  • Maximum bandwidth of 480 Mb/s at 3 meters
