The SierraNet M648 family offers the most cost effective, advanced and fully integrated Ethernet and Fibre Channel data capture and protocol verification systems available for developers and protocol test engineers. The M648 protocol analysis systems provide engineers with 100% recording of all Fibre Channel and Ethernet related traffic at full line rates on all ports and offers the addition of error injection and traffic corruption with our InFusion™ tools for advanced validation and verification testing.

Flexibility to Meet Any Debug Challenge

The SierraNet M648 hardware platform and Net Protocol Suite graphical user interface provides the highest level of performance and flexibility available in the market for legacy and todays’ emerging high-speed network and fabric deployments used in cloud and enterprise environments.

The SierraNet M648 provides ultimate flexibility in analysis and verification of traditional or converged Ethernet and Fibre Channel products in a single platform and the flexibility to add protocol specific features, functionality, and speed support at the time of purchase or later by the addition of license keys.

Each SFP28 pair can probe both Ethernet and Fibre Channel links of speeds up to 50Gbps/link for Ethernet and/or 64G FC/link on copper or optical cabling and eliminates the need for separate "single function" blades.

The SFP28 pairs may be aggregated to support 100Gbps Ethernet links, and the integrated QSFP-DD connections support all Ethernet rates – 50GbE, 100GbE and 200GbE link traffic – for both analysis and jamming applications. Additionally, the QSFP-DD connections support the Auto-Negotiation and Link Training analysis of 400GbE links.

In addition to FlexPort technology, the SierraNet M648's sophisticated analysis and jamming software, the Net Protocol Suite, provides unmatched flexibility with customized data displays that easily identify and navigate to specific events of interest quickly. Decoding in the Net Protocol Suite's multiple trace views provide superior visibility for troubleshooting low level to application layer issues, decode per the supported specifications and their associated encoding schemes, and the zero-time search and filter capabilities easily find Ethernet and Fibre Channel events in a contextual and intuitive way. In a multi-protocol environment, Teledyne LeCroy's CrossSync™ can synchronize and correlate traces with our other leading protocol analysis tools, such as the PCI Express Summit analyzers, to understand how traffic, stimulus, and/or errors propagate across bridges or adapters.

InFusion Jammer

The Teledyne LeCroy InFusion™ (Jammer) Error Injector and Traffic Modifier tool allows users to verify real-world fault handling for both Ethernet network and Fibre Channel fabric systems. InFusion sits in the data path on a live system to programmatically alter or corrupt traffic. InFusion is the ideal tool for stress-testing systems using actual workloads and devices.

SierraNet InFusion on the M648 supports Ethernet link speeds from 10GbE up to 200GbE and Fibre Channel links up to 64 Gbps, depending on the capabilities of the licensed SierraNet platform. InFusion monitors traffic from both directions in real-time and through the use of customer defined parameters, replaces or modifies any bit, ordered-set, checksum or other parameters with those specified for the test case.

InFusion can change traffic when it detects a specific sequence or reaches a designated time interval, yet it requires no complicated scripts, programming, or simulation tools. InFusion can monitor traffic in both directions and act on events occurring in either direction of the communications link. InFusion can even modify bi-directional traffic within a given test scenario, either from the Originator or from the Responder. InFusion is specifically designed to verify recovery characteristics within a subsystem. An easy, user friendly menu interface with icons and hyperlinks allows you to create specific test Scenarios in just minutes.

Once an InFusion session starts, the system automatically handles protocol handshaking between devices. InFusion transmits a faithful copy of the original data stream down to the CRC value which, if needed, it recalculates. InFusion allows test engineers to systematically verify error recovery in ways not possible with other test platforms.

Key Features:
  • Error Injection: Injects CRC, disparity, PCS encoding (8b/10b, 64/66b, etc) framing, and coding errors.
  • Break Link Recovery: Programmatically breaks the connection to test link recovery.
  • Value Replacement: Monitors the link for specific values, patterns, or ordered-sets (as low as bit level) and replace with user-defined values. You can replace values on every occurrence, after a specified number of occurrences, or after a specified time interval.
  • Packet Drop: Removes individual ordered-sets or frames from the stream to verify retry behavior.
  • Packet Delay: Capture and individual frame and re-inset into the data stream to verify out-of-order reassembly.
  • Ordered-set Manipulation: Replaces handshaking and flow control ordered-sets to help validate robustness of a design.
  • Traffic Monitoring: Operates as a traffic monitor, collecting statistical data on user-specified parameters. In this mode, data passes unchanged in both directions.
  • Menu-Driven Interface: Allows easy set-up of test Scenarios.

FC Exerciser

Fabric Exerciser™ – Phy Layer Capabilities
Speed Negotiation & Transmitter Training – Packet Generation

The Teledyne LeCroy SierraNet M648 Fabric Exerciser option will transform the protocol analyzer to a feature rich Fibre Channel traffic generator and link exerciser. Fabric Exerciser is fully capable of creating Speed Negotiation packets at 16/32Gb FC and 64Gb FC PAM4 for emulating physical layer instantiation conditions, either within specification parameters, or to generate out of spec error conditions. Fabric Exerciser may even be programmed to generate custom link speed negotiation packets for Extended Marker bit values in both NRZ and PAM4 links.

Fabric Exerciser can be used to create Transmitter Training signals for specification compliant, and for deviation from specification, to test the DUT receiver(s). Fabric Exerciser supports creation of a myriad of Training Frame Status and Control Field combinations and may be programmed for creating Differential Manchester encoding errors.

Fabric Exerciser – Link Services
Generate Basic and Extended LS frames

Once the physical layer negotiations are complete, Fabric Exerciser can generate a complete fabric and port login sequences to test response timing of the DUT during Basic and Extended Link service actions.

The Fabric Exerciser routines are programmable and predictable, offering a test generation solution ideal for creating and maintaining a repeatable test environment. No longer will validation and test routines be based on another vendors reference design, which may have its own inherent conformance or compliance issues.

Fabric Exerciser contains a host of preconfigured scripts for generating the basic Fibre Channel services. Each of the templates may be modified, saved, and reused, offering the engineering team the ability to create their own test arcs.

FC Generation Options

The Fabric Exerciser is an available option in the Net Protocol Suite software and supported in the SierraNet M648 platform for generation of 16/32/64GFC traffic. Customers may license 1 or 2 links of generation as needed, and use Fabric Exerciser in conjunction with the analysis capabilities for a complete picture of the link and devices under test.

The Fabric Exerciser function is an addon component of the Net Protocol Suite software utility and supports functions for:

  • Complete Line Rate 16GFC, 32GFC, and PAM4 64GFC traffic generation and manipulation
  • Generates Speed Negotiation & Transmitter Training packets
    • Generate custom link speed negotiation packets, including 64G Extended Markers
    • Generate Transmitter Training signals, both compliant and off spec to test DUT receiver(s)
    • Generate all possible Training Control and Status field combinations
  • Manchester Encoding Errors
    • Create encoding errors to stress test DUTs
    • Generate all possible Training Control and Status field combinations
  • Framed Data Generation with flexible patterns
  • Initiator and target emulation
  • PRBS
  • Corner Case conditions
  • Enable/Disable FEC capabilities
  • Create FEC errors
  • Integrate Fabric Exerciser with Rest API interface
  • Generate traffic for all layers of the Fibre Channel fabric
